Description
This 4-hour instructor-led course uses lecture, demonstration and exercises to:

- Examine building energy use contributors
- Introduce the new 5th Edition (2014) Florida Residential Energy Code
- Review Residential Energy Code compliance methods and tools
- Run sample calculations to assess the effects of specific improvements on energy efficiency and Code compliance
- Verify code forms and identify common errors.

Learning Objectives

The primary objective is for students to obtain a working knowledge of Florida Residential Energy Code compliance methods, the tools that are used for determining compliance, and how to verify compliance at permitting and in the field.

In addition to recently heading a Code compliance training project, Mr. Sonne has also has served as principal investigator or co-principal investigator for a number of other projects including monitored residential air conditioner sizing and roofing studies, a national K-12 school conditions study and a high school energy audit curriculum development project. He also has significant experience performing residential energy audits, code calculations and energy ratings, and ongoing teaching and speaking experience on residential building topics including building science, energy efficiency and the Florida Energy Code.  He also recently served on the Florida Building Commission's Pool Efficiency and Roofing Efficiency Sub-committees.  Mr. Sonne has a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Auburn University and a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts Engineering from Wheaton College.


Registration begins at 8:30 AM and class starts at 9:00 AM. Lunch will also be provided.
