Description
This 6-hour instructor-led course uses lecture, demonstration and exercises to:

- Examine building use energy contributors
- Introduce the new 5th Edition (2014) Florida Commercial Energy Code changes
- Review Commercial Energy Code compliance methods and tools
- Run sample calculations to assess the effects of specific - improvements on energy efficiency and Code compliance
- Verify Code forms and identify common errors.

Learning Objectives

The primary objective is for students to be able to obtain a working knowledge of Florida Commercial Energy Code compliance methods, use EnergyGauge Summit software with existing building files to determine energy code compliance, simulate energy use and generate output reports, and find deficiencies in a Code compliance report.

Method of evaluation for each course is a 30-minute exam.

Instructor

Michael M. Houston, LEED AP

Mr. Houston is a registered Architect, Building Contractor, and Energy and Green Building Consultant specializing in indigenous and eco-sensitive design and construction projects. A recognized expert in both energy effective green building design and construction, he has more than 31 years of project experience with residential, restaurant, retail, office, medical, theme park, resort, and government facilities. His work has been featured in national publications such as Progressive Architecture and Popular Science magazines.

Mr. Houston conducts numerous seminars and lectures on “energy and buildings” for other architects, engineers, building inspectors, and contractors. He has developed instructional presentations, manuals and testing materials for the Florida Department of Community Affairs (DCA) and the Florida Solar Energy Center.

He is a Past President of the Florida Green Building Coalition (FGBC) - a 501C3 non-profit organization leading a statewide program to define, promote, and encourage sustainable efforts that have environmental and economic benefits.

Mr. Houston holds a Master of Architecture, Energy Efficient Building Design from Georgia Tech.

Registration begins at 8:30 AM and class starts at 9:00 AM. Lunch will also be provided.
